Substance Abuse Coalitions
Local Board for Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (KY-ASAP)

The Local Board of twenty members has been working since 2002 addressing substance abuse problems throughout Magoffin County by developing and implementing a long-term Strategic Plan. The vision of the Local Board is a healthy community, free of alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) abuse and related consequences. The mission is to develop a long-term strategy that is designed to reduce the incidence of substance abuse (ATOD) in youth and adults in Magoffin County. Coordination and collaboration with multiple community partners continues to be the most important strategies to sustain the work.

Prevent RX Abuse. Dispose of your medicine properly. Medicine take-back programs are a good way to remove expired, unwanted,or unused medicines from the home and reduce the chance that others may accidentally take the medicine. The Med Drop Box is located at the Magoffin County Sheriffs Office.
Unlawful Narcotics Investigation Treatment Education (UNITE)
The Local Board also serves as the Coalition for Magoffin UNITE. Each of the funding sources (KY-ASAP,UNITE) require a detailed action plan that targets the overall Strategic Plan for Magoffin County. Assessment, building capacity, planning, implementation, evaluation, and sustainability are the Strategic Prevention Framework in process that empowers the community to identify and implement the most effective strategies to achieve community-level change.

Substance Abuse Free Environment (SAFE) Coalition
SAFE Coalition serves as the working group to expand environmental strategies to address substance abuse. The coalition meets every third Wednesday of each month at 1:00PM at the local health department.
